ReimonenQ Cuvée Quintessence 2001
During 1915 and 1916, two Finnish brothers, Joseph and Fernand Reimonenq, put together their skills to build a distillery in the town of Saint-Rose, Guadeloupe. Over the decades, the distillery earned several medals at most competitions. In 2009, it won a gold medal in Paris for its 2001 vintage rum, from which finally, nine casks were left. Those casks have been chosen to produce 2600 decanters of this limited edition Cuvée Quintessence 2001, which has been released to celebrate their first-century anniversary.
Cuvée Quintessence 2001 takes its name from its connection with these four elements:
- The Earth, on which the sugarcane grew
- Water, for the liquid aspect of the rum
- Fire, which is used to charr the casks, used to age rum in
- The Air, which is hot and humid in tropical Islands such as Guadeloupe and helps during the aging process
Golden Dark color. The aroma of the rum delivers notes of old alcohol and dark vanilla, fresh-cut apples, pears, charred oak, and toasted nuts. The first sip of the rum provides a swirl of vanilla and oak tannins. This conditions the tongue of the imbiber to enjoy the complexity of the rum. Additional sips reveal notes of cocoa, more fresh-cut apples with a hint of pears, leather, raisins, dried apricots, pepper, and dark toffee. As the rum begins to fade, toasted walnuts and tobacco leaf notes linger and balance in a nice long finish. Notice to connoisseurs!
