PLANETRUM was founded in 2001 by José-Henri Joseph with an innovative concept: to create the first online store offering connoisseurs and novices the world's most fabulous and most prestigious rum. Based in the Caribbean, on the archipelago of Guadeloupe, we could not find a better place to promote this wonderful sugarcane-based spirit. After all, Christopher Columbus introduced sugar cane to the Caribbean at the end of the fifteenth century, and Jean Baptiste Labat came to the West Indies and perfected and revolutionized the distillation process.

The French Antilles, particularly Guadeloupe, played a pivotal role in the global sugar and rum industry. By 1775, Guadeloupe had earned the moniker of the 'sugar island'. The demand for rum was so high that Guadeloupe was able to export its unparalleled product worldwide, cementing its status as a rum powerhouse.
