Kraken

Kraken Black Spiced Rum, launched in 2010 by Proximo Spirits, is a distinctive dark spiced rum that artfully fuses tradition with captivating theatrics. Produced in Trinidad and Tobago, this rum is crafted from aged molasses-based rum and infused with 11 natural spices, including cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. It is then lightly aged for 1–2 years to achieve remarkable depth and complexity. Its dramatic jet-black appearance, which glints deep brown when held to the light, is bottled at a bold 47% ABV (94 proof).

The bottle design draws inspiration from vintage Victorian rum bottles, featuring two hoop handles—originally conceived to prevent breakage during rough sea voyages. Its front label showcases the colossal squid, Architeuthis dux, paying homage to the mythical Kraken that animates its dramatic branding.

Kraken Rum’s marketing leans heavily into legendary storytelling, employing cinematic ads and striking visuals that depict a monstrous sea creature attacking a ship—its inky assault staining rum barrels and inspiring both the spirit’s haunting hue and evocative name.

The brand has expanded beyond its classic black-spiced rum, introducing Kraken Ghost (a white rum), as well as canned cocktails like Kraken & Cola, Kraken & Dry, and Kraken & Ginger Beer, broadening its appeal worldwide.
