Barbancourt
Rhum Barbancourt is Haiti’s most iconic rum and among the world’s oldest distilleries, established in 1862 by Dupré Barbancourt, a French émigré from Cognac. Drawing on his cognac-making heritage, Barbancourt pioneered double distillation and aging in French Limousin oak—unprecedented methods in rum production at the time—creating a distinctive Haitian-style agricole rum from pure sugarcane juice.
In 1949, the distillery relocated to the heart of its cane fields in the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac region, where it remains family-owned and operated through five generations. Today, the legacy continues under Delphine Nathalie Gardère, who assumed full ownership in 2020.
Barbancourt’s acclaimed range includes:
White Rhum (Haitian Proof): Vibrant and full of fresh cane character.
3-Star: Aged for four years, boasting citrus and spice undertones.
5-Star Réserve Spéciale: Aged eight years, with rich notes of honeyed wheat, baked fruit, and subtle spice.
Réserve du Domaine: A prestigious 15-year estate-aged expression, internationally acclaimed for its depth and elegance.
Pango Barbancourt: Fruit-infused expressions, such as mango and pineapple, offering a playful twist on tradition.
Barbancourt is deeply woven into Haiti’s cultural fabric. The distillery preserves artisanal techniques, champions sustainable local cane farming, and promotes heritage through ongoing innovation. Its award-winning rums continue to earn global recognition—including a recent double gold at international competitions in 2025.
