Cruzan
Cruzan Rum is a renowned St. Croix brand produced at the historic Estate Diamond distillery in the U.S. Virgin Islands, with a heritage dating back to 1760. Its name honors the island’s inhabitants, known as “Crucians.”
For eight generations, the Nelthropp family has played a pivotal role in Cruzan’s production, blending time-honored tradition with contemporary methods. The process begins with high-quality sugarcane molasses, pure aquifer water from St. Croix, and proprietary yeast cultures, which are fermented in open-top tanks for approximately 48 hours.
Distillation utilizes a five-column still process, which reduces impurities and results in an exceptionally smooth, clean rum. Aging takes place in charred American oak barrels—lighter and darker rums are typically aged 1–2 years, while premium offerings like Single Barrel mature for 5–12 years.
Cruzan’s diverse portfolio includes:
Estate Light and Dark: Smooth, approachable rums aged around two years.
Estate Diamond: An elegant, well-rounded rum aged for five years.
Single Barrel: A premium, award-winning aged rum, celebrated for its depth and complexity.
High-proof offerings (such as Cruzan 151°): Robust, bold rums for adventurous palates.
Flavored rums: A vibrant lineup featuring coconut, mango, pineapple, key lime, vanilla, black cherry, guava, orange, banana, passion fruit, and more.
The distillery on St. Croix welcomes visitors with immersive tours, a dedicated visitor center, sampling bar, and historical exhibits. Cruzan is also deeply committed to the community, launching initiatives such as the Island Spirit Fund (established in 2018 following hurricanes) to bolster local resilience and support recovery efforts.
