May 2nd, 2007 St. Lucia Distillers was struck by a major fire which destroyed our administration and blending facility. Most of our distillery was spared, but we suffered significant problems with storage space for our casks. Our cellar master, Mr. Cyril Mangal, was forced to find room for aging barrels in the most unusual places in the melee that followed. The cellar team had a memory lapse and forgot the casks laid down for our award-winning rum Chairman's Reserve. These casks were discovered recently and, upon tasting, contained a wonderfully complex rum which we decided to offer as a limited release.
The Chairman's Reserve Rum, The Forgotten Casks, is a blend of rums aged seven to twelve years, aged in American white oak casks. Rich dark gold mahogany color. Wonderfully intense nose of sweet raisin, sultana, and hints of tobacco and vanilla from the oak. On the palate, fierce with sweet, honeyed fruit and spices giving a wonderfully balanced and complex rum.
