In 1845, Jean-Marie Martin purchased the habitation Fonds-Préville in Macouba, in northern Martinique, to start producing rum that he quite simply named with his initials: J.M. As the most minor and longest standing distillery on the island still in operation, the years of experience have made J.M. rum the most prestigious of all the Old agricultural rums from Martinique. J.M. extra old X.O. rum is made with a blend of at least six-year-old rhums. Its golden color with lemon reflections is a prelude to its spicy, fruity nose. On the palate, J.M. X.O. rum is round and fresh, with hints of acidity and spicy flavors exploding halfway – black pepper and nutmeg. The final is warm, long, and spicy.
