Zaya Gran Reserva 12 Year Old Estate Rum
Zaya Gran Reserva rum 12 years Aged Rum is crafted with premium blackstrap molasses, purified water, and the same strain of yeast that has been used for over 60 years. Distilled in a state-of-the-art, five-column continuous still, master blended and matured 12 years in once-used white oak American bourbon barrels that are lightly charred and then hyper chill-filtered for clarity in the style of fine scotches before being bottled.
The Zaya Gran Reserva Rum was initially blended, aged, and distilled in Guatemala by Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala, the same company that distills Ron Zacapa and Ron Botran. The move to Trinidad allegedly resulted from the desire to have sufficient quantities of rum to blend, bottle, and sell.
Lovely dark amber, light mahogany color with aromas of molasses, vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, coconut, oak, orange peel, and cocoa. The Zaya is smooth with almost oily textures on the palate and shows flavors of baked apple, baked pear, caramel, butterscotch, vanilla, sweet orange, and cherry. The finish is long with coconut and oak notes.
“Zaya Rum is marrying various Caribbean & Latin rum styles, which is very symbolic of Trinidad’s own cultural diversity and style.”
