Oronoco
Oronoco Rum, crafted by the Bastos Ribeiro brothers (Vicente and Roberto) at Fazenda Soledade in Brazil, is heralded as the first “super‑premium white rum” derived from fresh mountain-grown sugarcane.
First produced as an artisanal experiment in the 1970s, the brand gained global recognition after Diageo launched its international distribution in 2005, featuring Oronoco as a unique blend of triple-distilled cane juice and select aged rums. It earned a Gold Medal at the 2005 San Francisco World Spirits Competition for its premium quality.
The rum is distilled three times in copper stills, using freshly cut cane juice harvested from the mountain slopes of Rio de Janeiro’s highlands (near Nova Friburgo). The cane is hand-harvested and processed quickly to preserve aroma and purity. After distillation, it is subtly married with aged Venezuelan rums and lightly rested in Brazilian Amendoim hardwood casks, imparting smoothness and complexity.
Oronoco is typically bottled at 40% ABV, offering a clear, elegant appearance and a clean yet layered palate. Flavor notes often include vanilla, sugarcane sweetness, grassy freshness, and a subtle hint of spice or floral notes.
