Havana Club
Havana Club Rum, established in Cuba in 1934 by José Arechabala S.A., is now jointly managed by Cubaexport (the Cuban government) and Pernod Ricard for global markets, excluding the U.S.
Production begins with molasses, which is fermented, distilled, and then aged in Cuba’s unique climate—characterized by high humidity and warm tropical temperatures. This environment allows the rum to mature in oak barrels within Havana’s cellars under the supervision of a Maestro Ronero.
Aging follows the brand’s "continuous ageing tradition": newer rum blends are matured and then blended with older rums to ensure consistent flavor and balance. Havana Club sources barrels primarily from Ireland and Scotland, using ex-bourbon oak among others.
Notable Havana Club expressions include:
Havana Club Añejo Blanco — a white rum aged at least one year, ideal for cocktails.
Havana Club 3 Años (3 Years) — a lighter aged rum, well-suited for mixing and cocktails.
Havana Club Especial / Añejo Especial — a golden or amber style with greater character (oak, vanilla, caramel) than the younger expressions.
Havana Club 7 Años — a dark aged rum with deeper oak, richer flavor, and notes of tobacco, tropical fruits, honey, and spices.
Havana Club 15 Años — a premium, long-aged blend designed for sipping.
Havana Club Máximo, Selección de Maestros, Rare, and Single Cask — ultra-premium, limited editions that often showcase exceptional wood aging, rare blends, and cask strength bottlings.
Our tasting notes across aged Havana Club rums often feature notes of vanilla, oak, caramel, honey, tropical and dried fruits, cocoa or chocolate, tobacco, honeyed sugar, and spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon. Wood aging imparts warmth, depth, and complexity.
