Nicaragua

Nicaragua, renowned for its dramatic volcanic landscapes and lush tropical climate, crafts rums celebrated for their lightness, aromatic finesse, and subtle oak influence. The country’s rum heritage traces back to the late 19th century, when sugarcane cultivation reshaped local agriculture and gave rise to Nicaragua’s first distillery—now part of Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua, also known as the iconic “Mombacho” distillery.

Today, two flagship brands define Nicaragua’s rum landscape:

  • Flor de Caña, established in 1937 with roots dating back to 1890, crafts a portfolio of premium rums ranging from Añejo 4 to exceptional 25-year-old expressions. Revered for its volcanic terroir, patient bourbon barrel aging, and strong sustainability ethos, Flor de Caña is both Fair Trade certified and acclaimed on the world stage.

  • Mombacho, crafted by the same distillery, offers high-quality aged rums celebrated for their elegant structure and aromatic complexity.

Nicaraguan rums stand out for their harmonious balance—softness, fragrant aromatics, and gentle wood notes—shaped by volcanic microclimates and refined aging. Additionally, collaborations with esteemed independent bottlers, such as Cadenhead and Samaroli, enhance Nicaragua’s reputation as a rising star in the global rum world.
