Appleton Estate (Nassau Valley, est. 1749) is Jamaica’s oldest continuously operating distillery. Appleton crafts terroir-driven aged rums, defined by lush tropical fruit, oak, and the mineral purity of limestone-filtered water.
Hampden Estate (Clarendon Parish): Celebrated for ultra-high-ester rums bursting with funky, pot-still character, Hampden remains a bastion of tradition—employing historic “dunder pits” and long, wild fermentations.
Worthy Park Estate (est. 1670, resumed production in 2005): This historic estate produces estate-grown rums, including rare 14-year cask-aged gems renowned for notes of mango and exotic spices—often showcased at luxury resort tastings.
J. Wray & Nephew Ltd. (founded 1825, Kingston): Jamaica’s legendary powerhouse, J. Wray & Nephew blends, distills, and exports iconic brands including Wray & Nephew White Overproof, Appleton, Coruba, Myers’s, and Blackwell Rum.
Jamaican rum is instantly recognizable for its bold, funky style—driven by pot-still distillation, extended fermentations, and time-honored regional techniques that yield intense ester complexity and depth.
Since 2016, Jamaican rum has been protected by a Geographical Indication (GI), safeguarding its time-honored heritage and ensuring that every bottle upholds the island’s uncompromising production standards.
