Trinidad & Tobago
Trinidad & Tobago commands a distinguished place on the world’s rum stage, anchored by the iconic Angostura distillery and a rich legacy of bold, full-flavored, high-proof spirits. At the heart of Trinidadian rum is Trinidad Distillers Limited (TDL), established in 1947 through the consolidation of storied brands like Angostura, Fernandes, and Caroni—a union of tradition and modern innovation.
As the distilling arm of the House of Angostura (founded in 1824 for bitters), TDL crafts globally acclaimed rums such as Angostura 1919, 1824, and 1787, each celebrated for refined aging and signature complexity.
The Angostura Experience invites visitors into a world of rum heritage—featuring immersive museum exhibits, vibrant art galleries, the world’s largest butterfly collection, and guided tastings conducted by the Master Distiller.
Historically, Caroni Distillery (est. 1917) was famed for producing full-bodied, heavy rums until its closure in the early 2000s. While no longer operational, Caroni’s storied legacy lives on through prized independent bottlings and its lasting impact on Trinidad’s rum identity.
Trinidad is also renowned for Puncheon Rum—a formidable overproof style (often around 75% ABV) that’s deeply woven into local culture. Iconic brands such as Forres Park, Caroni, and Stallion continue to champion this unapologetically bold tradition.
Trinidadian rum is woven into the fabric of social life—most notably as the star of the Queen’s Park Swizzle, a classic cocktail born in the 1920s at Port of Spain’s legendary Queen’s Park Hotel and still cherished for its minty, bitters-laced elegance.
